This is a recap of of her journey to the Chesapeake.  Our delivery captain, Adrian Rogers, left St. Peters NS the afternoon of  Sunday Sept. 7th. He sailed 25 miles to Canso where he spent the night waiting for the fair NW wind to sail down the Atlantic shore of Nova Scotia.  I got a call from Adrian Monday  afternoon explaining he was having Alternator trouble and could we arrange to have a replacement unit couriered to Liverpool by lunch the next day. My son Kyle found a replacement in Bridgewater and arranged to have it in delivered to the Brookland Yacht Club near Liverpool for Adrian to pick up.  Tuesday around lunch, Moxie put into port at Liverpool to discover the courier driver had got his signals mixed up and the new alternator had gone to a sorting facility in Dartmouth. After some consideration, Adrian decided to keep going and worked out a temporary way to get the alternator charging again (We now have a spare alternator which we will lug  to Virginia when we fly down in mid October).
By Thursday, Moxie reported going through the Cape Cod canal. By Saturday, Moxie and crew were about 25 miles from Sandy Hook, where Adrian was planning on making landfall to pick up some fuel and possibly sign in with US customs. After a 5 hour battle with following seas against a strong tide, Adrian picked up a mooring at Atlantic Highlands NJ,  just outside the entrance into New York Harbour and had a well deserved rest.  He picked up some fuel but was unable to raise a customs official to come to the boat, so decided to push on and have an official meet the boat when he got to Deltaville.  He continued the voyage down the Jersey Shore, around Cape May into Delaware Bay, through the Delaware Chesapeake canal and down the Chesapeake Bay, anchoring a night somewhere off Annapolis and arriving in in Deltaville Tuesday evening, Sept 16, clearing customs Wednesday morning.  Adrian flew back to Nova Scotia on Thursday.

Can't say enough good things about our delivery captain Adrian and how fast and efficiently the boat was delivered to Deltaville.
Debbie and I are extremely grateful to have Moxie safely delivered to a place where we can easily start our trip down the Intracoastal Waterway. We have our flight booked to Richmond Virginia on October 14, right after Canadian Thanksgiving.   My appointment with Dr. Bell is on October 8, and baring any unforeseen  complications, should get the Green light to continue with our slightly delayed voyage.

Our boat Moxie is leaving without us for The Chesapeake Bay this week end.  In early July, our plans abruptly changed, when after a biopsy, it was recommended I have my prostrate removed.  Luckily, I had the surgery on August 26, but the doctor has told me not to do anything strenuous for the 6 weeks after the surgery, which is why we decided to to have a delivery skipper take our boat to Deltaville, Virginia in the Chesapeake Bay. Debbie and I will join Moxie in mid October to resume our planned trip down the Intracoastal Waterway to Florida and the Bahamas.

A few days before my surgery, we had an informative meeting with
friends Dave and Jane Lundin.
Dave and Jane have been south to the Bahamas 2 times, most recently last winter. They filled us in on lots of first hand experience concerning the ins and outs of the ICW, places to stock up, money issues, homeland security as well as a whole lot of other relevant first hand information that will be extremely useful to us on our trip. Thanks Dave and Jane.

In the meantime, Debbie loaded and stowed all our cruising essentials onto the boat. On Thursday evening, Sept 4, our delivery captain came to get the boat to sail her to St. Peters  to wait for a weather window, ie, fair winds, and fix up a few miscellaneous unfinished chores that I was unable to complete because of the surgery. The radar wires at the mast need to be connected, the steaming and anchor light need attention, the dingy on the davits obscure the stern light, and the lazy jacks have to be attached to the new sail pack. Adrian, our delivery captain, kindly agreed to do the work for us before his planned embarking on Sunday.  If everything goes well, he will sail from St. Peters straight to the Cape Cod Canal, then "jig" his way down the eastern seaboard to the Chesapeake Bay.

We plan to fly to either Richmond or Norfolk after Canadian Thanksgiving
, rent a car and provision for our journey. We may do some side trips while were in the area, most notably Washington DC and other Historic sites in the Virginia / Maryland area. Hopefully will have a week or so to cruise the lower Chesapeake.  We will start our journey down the ICW the end of October. Our insurance provider doesn't want  us south of Norfolk Va before November 1st.

Quick Note:
Deb and I traveled to St. Peter
's today, Saturday Sept. 6th. Took a few more pictures and bid Adrian a fair sail to the Chesapeake. He will leave tomorrow as the winds will be fair, will travel over a thousand miles and will probably be in Deltaville Va. in ten days or less.
